Dance Dance Dance...
Dancing is a worldwide language now. People communicate through dancing, every tribes from the north pole to the south has their very own kind of dance. Regardless of age, everyone is attracted to dancing and watching the body move.
Nowadays there are numerous types of dancing; tango, Latino, Mexican, reggae, and the most popular, hip hop dancing. Hip hop dance is closely linked to the beat and feel of rap music, especially those with angst lyrics in it. The most frequent place where you can see people dancing is non other than the night club, and thus the word “clubbing” came about which is linked to dancing.
Youths are more and more attracted to dancing now, no matter how well you can dance or how badly you dance, you will still have a desire in you to dance. At the night clubs is where a lot of people find their refuge for sorrow, anxiety, fear, worries and difficulties. They would bottle down a big bottle of beer and get high with the trance music that is played by the DJs, get someone of the opposite sex and start moving their body on the dance floor. And if you have been to a night club before, you will know how the dance goes. Body will rub against each other and hands flying all around (if you get what I mean) and that is where people get drugged, rape and all the possible things you can think of. That is the effect of the mixture of music and dancing.
That is how Satan uses music and dance as one of his arsenal of weapons against Christians.
Music and dance was created by and for God and God alone. But the banishing of Satan and his legion of angels from heaven caused Satan to bring along one of his “talents” which is music. The craftiness of the enemy is pulling away music and dance from good to evil. But God will not let that happen.
In the Bible, the first account of dancing was recorded in the book of 2 Samuel when David brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem.
2 Samuel 6:14
David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the Lord with all his might.
David was overjoyed and danced with all his might before God. Another account of dancing is in the book of Matthew.
Matthew 14:6
On Herod’s birthday the daughter of Herodias danced for them and pleased Herod so much that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked.
This was what happened. Herod had his birthday bash and then his daughter came and danced before her father (Herod) and she danced so so well that it melted her father’s heart. She danced into her father’s heart and made her him so happy and pleased that he told his daughter to ask for anything and it will be given to her. And there was no pulling back of what he told his daughter, Herod’s daughter asked for the head of John the Baptist. With the large number of crowd present at Herod’s birthday bash, he cold not have possibly break his promise and turn down his daughter’s request. So John the Baptist was beheaded – all because a child danced into the heart of her father.
We as children of God are called to do likewise, to worship God with our body. God delights in His people dancing for him. David was one dancing freak, throughout the book of Psalm you can see that David indeed loves to dance.
dancing is a form of worship where we express our love for God.
How glad would God be if His children would dance for Him rather than dancing for the devil. When people dance in the clubs, they are dancing for themselves, for their dance partners, for their own happiness and satisfaction. And oh please, no – we do not dance and then ask God to give us someone’s head, mind you. *laughs.
When we dance before the Lord our God and Savior, we are dancing for the King of kings and the Lord of lords. We are dancing for His joy, we are dancing as an act of worship and praise and thanksgiving. We are dancing into the heart of our Father.
Do not be ashamed or think about what the person next to you will say about you. It is between you and God, who is in authority to question your sacrifice unto God?! No one! Give God what He deserves, which is the praise and worship of His people, with all our might! So do not be ashamed to dance before our Father and please Him.
I suddenly got the dancing spirit during the first Praise and Worship session at GY Camp last year when the Grace USJ Band was playing. I do not know what happened but all of a sudden I suddenly did something I have never did before – I danced before God. I just started to move my body and hands and legs in a way people would find it weird and funny and laugh over it. But who cares?! Say what you want but please know that I am not and NOT dancing for you, I am dancing for my Heavenly Father.
Let us dance into the heart of our Father.
Psalm 150
Praise him with tambourine and dancing...
Psalm 149:3
Let them praise his name with dancing...
O, I feel like dancing,
It’s foolishness I know,
but when the world has seen Your light,
they will dance with joy
like we’re dancing now...
(From the song I could Sing of Your Love Forever by Delirous.)

John 15:15-17
I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit – fruits that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. This is my command: Love each other.
Matthew 22:39
Love your neighbors as yourself.

"Stop Destroying the Works of My Hand........." - Sign, Jesus Christ.
Ever wondered why we can’t seem to see the church growing? In this case: growing in the faith. Why the young Christians still stay young after 5 years? Why there are only so few spiritual people in the church?
Why are we seeing Christians pulling down other fellow Christians? A brother accuses another brother of his of false charges, bringing fellow brothers and sisters of the same faith to court. Often we hear people gossiping about each other and spreading false rumors. Around us, sadly, in the church itself, we see people hating each other; we see the HIGH and LOFTY looking down on the LOWLY and rejecting them at one glance; moreover, they are of the same family of Christ!
We are TEARING down each other one way or another!
THIS MUST STOP...
Leaping out of the pages of the Bible we see a word that is CLOSELY LINKED to our faith as believers of Christ, it is the word “EDIFICATION”. This word seems far-fetched for most of us but in fact it is as real as air. It is one of the most spiritual-sounding words we often hear in the church. But really, what does it mean?
The meaning is pretty simple. The Greek term for “edify” means to “build the house.” Yup, as simple as that, to build the house.
Jesus uses the literal meaning of the word edify in Matthew 7:24
Matthew 7:24
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house upon the rock.
We get interested and excited about building high rise buildings and see them taking shape. We compete on who can build the biggest building, the tallest, the most expensive and so forth. But the Bible has a different interest, while the world is concerned about building BUILDINGS, God is more concerned in BUILDING PEOPLE. God is calling all of us to build up our fellow believers in the faith. Yes, that is the simple truth.
Matthew 16:18
And on this rock, I will BUILD MY CHURCH, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
In the verse above, Jesus wasn’t talking about building a brick-and-stone structure with beautiful precious stones all over the walls of the building. He is not interested in building a castle or a palace grander than India’s Taj Mahal. No, He is NOT! What He meant in that verse is to build up the WORLDWIDE BODY of BELIEVERS. To build His church in YOU!
The world out there is MEAN. Once we walk out of the door, we are a sitting duck for the enemy to attack us, and he will do his very best to bring you down; take note, he will NOT stop! This is where edification plays an important role in the church today; we get together with our fellow brothers-and-sisters-in-Christ and get built up once more. But of what good will it be if our own fellow believers are “helping” the enemy to tear other Christians down? The result will be even worse!
What is a church? Many refer it to a building where Christians go to worship on Sundays. But the REAL CHURCH is NOT a building, it is the PEOPLE! It is mentioned in 1 Corinthians 3:9 “For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s BUILDING.” we are the CHURCH! And we are told to build up the church of God, Ephesians 4:12 “to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” So that is what edification is all about, building the church of Christ up, building our fellow believers of the same faith up.
Many a times we get so comfortable in swinging the hammer and know exactly where to apply the deadly crowbar at people’s heart and break it. We are just so good at tearing down each other. But to tear down our fellow brothers and sisters is the exact OPPOSITE of what we are called to do! Read carefully the verse below:
Ephesians 4:29
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out from your mouths, but only what is helpful for BUILDING others up according to their needs, that it may BENEFIT those who listen.
There are many things we can do or say or react to situations but be warned that what you say or do or react can either break a person or make a person. Next time before you do anything, ask yourself, “Will this build up or tear down my brother or sister?”
We are all called to edify one another, to build one another up in the faith. To take care of Jesus’ flocks, not one or two particular sheep, but ALL. We are called to strengthen one another. But until we do that, we will see the church being stunted in all aspects of growth. Stop passing judgment, stop gossiping, life is short so make good use of every second. What do we benefit from all these useless activities?
So start to open your eyes and look around for stray sheeps of God and make every effort to bring them back into the flock; in numbers we find safety. Start being mindful of what comes out of your mouth, of the way you react in desperate situations, and especially in the way you TREAT OTHERS.
Remember that is we tear down one of our brothers or sisters, we are tearing down God’s building, God’s work…
ALL believers are the work of God, so......
Romans 14:19-20
“Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.
DO NOT DESTROY THE WORK OF GOD...”
Let us edify,
Zlwin Chew.
