PARIS HILTON! WOO HOO!!!
Heard of the recent hot piece of news about PARIS HILTON being sentenced to 23 days in jail? I know of many people out there who are glad about what’s happening, I have read the papers and many were glad she was sentenced to jail. One even said, “I just want her to do her time in jail and shut up!” Ouch!
Funny isn’t it how easily we get angered by people. We even get angered by celebrities that we don’t even know. I am not a fan of Paris Hilton though I admit she is kind of pretty haha. But I know many of my friends out there who have an issue with her and I can’t really seem to find a good reason of how Paris has affected them. I remembered once I was with a group of friends and we started talking about Paris and before we could say Hilton, someone said, “I hate her. She’s so plastic. Her face is just full of make-ups.”
Familiar?
Okay, away with Paris. I often read the newspaper and hear of rape cases, murders, robberies and those of the like. And I get disgusted about it. I get angry at these people. Well it is not wrong to get angry okay? Don’t tell me you rejoice at the news about a man killing his 3 children? Yikes! It is right and it is human nature to be angry at these happenings.
But only today I realized something.
I was reading the news about Paris’ imprisonment and I pitied her. Really. She was sentenced to 23 days in jail for drunk-driving (if I am not mistaken) and she is only allowed to come out for an hour a day. That means she has to be in jail for 23 hours each day all by herself in that dark cell! Imagine how torturing is that?! If she has a friend or two in the cell it wouldn’t be so bad. They could maybe write a song or two or help each other put on 5cm of make-ups. But being all alone… I might go crazy!
When I read the news about Paris I pitied her and you wouldn’t believe it, I prayed for her. I prayed that she won’t go insane in the cell. And I was hoping God would suddenly reveal Himself to her. God CAN do that ok, don’t underestimate God. So yea, I was hoping God would suddenly appear to Paris and give her a command to go spread the Gospel and TA-DA! after getting out from jail, we could see Paris going from one church to another preaching about Jesus. Now wouldn’t that be cool?! Who knows she might even come to Grace Klang and preach in YE haha.
What in the world are we up to???????????????????
Here is my point for this post. Why are we (including me) always talking bad about people who are “bad” and we do only just that - talk?! Shouldn’t we as Christian do “something else”? Shouldn’t we as Christians pray for those people instead of just talking about them?
I often see things that are not right in the church. For example, people trying to out-do one another just to impress the pastors or those higher than them. And things like this guy backstabbing another guy. And all these things that I see don’t make me happy at all. But now I have come to realize that instead of me complaining about all these problems to my close friend or pastor, why don’t I just get down on my knees and pray for these people?
Now ask yourselves that question.
You see something not right or someone hurt you. And the next day you sit down with a group of church friends for lunch and suddenly you tell everyone about that guy who mistreated you. And from there the news spread to the whole community.
So what if the guy has some attitude problem?
So what if the guy is not doing what he says?
So what if the guy was a flirt?
So what if the guy stares at you as though you are a hog?
So what?
Do we then have to go tell the whole world about this guy and how bad he is? Why don’t we just get down on our knees and pray for this guy so that God will change him? Am I hitting home here or everyone is still blur?
Pray more and talk less please.
King Herod captured Peter and put him in jail. When the church heard about Peter’s imprisonment, they were earnestly praying for him. You see, they didn’t go around the whole world to tell how bad King Herod was. If this happened today, instead of PRAYING we will be sms-ing and MSN-ing all our friends this,
“Hey do you know what happened?! That stupid King Herod put Peter into jail! So stupid la. I hope one day he falls down from the stairs and break his legs. He deserve to die la ish. Pity Peter la. If I had the power, I would turn King Herod into an ugly toad and lock him up in an aquarium! Stupid Herod! Go die la! Forward this message to 10 people in 10 minutes and you will be blessed.” =)
But that wasn’t what happened in the book of Acts. Instead of spreading bad gossip about King Herod, the whole church were EARNESTLY praying to God for Peter.
Acts 12:5
So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.
Pray for Paris!
Paris was sentenced to prison for violating her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. Yes it was wrong for her to do that. But I don’t understand why people are angry at her for that? It is as though Paris’ case affected them terribly. Instead of talking bad about her (which won’t gain you anything) why don’t you pray for her?
Pray for Eminem!
I have a Gospel rap song by this Christian Rapper, I don’t know his name though. He wrote a rap song for Eminem using one of Eminem’s song, just that he changed the lyrics. And the song was good. The lyrics were very good. One sentence was this:
Too bad a lot of Christians,
all they do is just hate on you,
instead of dropping on their kness,
and taking time and pray for you.
Now aren’t the words just so true?
Think about it ya'all...
Praying,
Zlwin Chew.
James 5:16
Pray for each other…
Pray for me too. I am in "jail". Really =)
Now I am not asking you to pray for all the celebrities around the world. If you could, go ahead, that would be good. But pray for those around you. Your friends; pray for them. Pray for those who hurt you or have wronged you. Do not hold your anger toward them but pray for them in love.
Remember that praying is much more important than talking.
