FIRE
Last Tuesday was the Moon Cake Festival. Suba, Sheng Giap, Jolene and I had our own little celebration with candles. Shannon wasn’t with us because she didn’t go for tuition that day. We were playing with the candles and we each made a wish before putting off the flames. The atmosphere was unexplainable, we amused ourselves for like 20 minutes by just looking at the little flames and how they danced.
The four of us were surrounding the candles because the wind was strong that night and it kept blowing off the candles. So we used our body and hands to build a “fortress” around it to protect the flames from the wind. Five candles lighted up and four of us, one to represent Shannon who missed our little celebration.
The wind was adamant; it kept coming at us as if it was telling us not to play with fire. We did all we could to keep the fire burning but every one in ten blows the wind succeeded it putting off a candle or two. Then we would take the other burning candles and light up the ones blew off. We managed to keep all the candles blowing till their lives ended.
Before we blew off the candles, we each held our hands together and closed our eyes and made a wish. My wish was......
I noticed how the fire on the candles went out so easily when blown by just a small gust of wind. Fire is so powerful and strong but yet when faced by the wind; it could not even stand up against it.
The fire reminds me of our Christian fire. How powerful can a Christian on fire for God be. A Christian who is on fire for God knows no boundaries in doing what needs to be done for God. How strong and powerful the Christian fire is. But yet, it can be as weak as the flames when blown by a gust of wind. A weak wind may be just enough to blow off a big flame. Often times, especially after a good rally or concert, we get fired up for God. But it never last long enough, give the fire a few weeks and it will be put off.
Just like what we did with the blown out candles. A fiery Christian should help their fireless friends to get fired up again. But the problem is always this – it is so hard to find a Christian who is on fire for God all the time. But why is that?
Take good care of your fire, guard it and continue to let it burn.
The fuel? - The Word of God.
Your fire can be very powerful, yet it is as weak as the flames on the candle. Keep it away from the wind.
