He Whispered... and Whispered... and Whispered...
He whispered, I didn't hear. He whispered again, again I didn't hear. He tapped my back and whispered, I didn't listen but I felt. He patted my head and whispered, I didn't hear but I felt. He knocked on my heart's door and whispered, I felt and I heard something. Again He knocked and I opened it. He whispered, I caught it... God gave me three Scriptures; Matthew 4:19 (the camp theme) Matthew 28:19-20 and Jeremiah 29:11-14.
Matthew 4:19
“Come, follow Me,” Jesus said, “And I will make you fishers of men.”
Matthew 28:19-20
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I will be with you always, to the very end of the age.
Jeremiah 29:11-14
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord.
The first verse, Matthew 4:19 says three things; “come” , “follow me” and “will make”. Many and infact all Christians have already answered the call of Jesus to “come” to Him, we did this by going to God in repentance and asking for forgiveness as well as inviting Jesus into our heart to be our Lord and Savior. But many, too many of us that went (come) to Jesus has already decided to stop following Jesus. When we stop following Jesus we without realizing it follows the enemy for Jesus is the light, if we don’t follow the light we will be walking in darkness. And once we stop following Jesus we are in grave danger. In this verse Jesus called us not to only to go to him but to follow Him and He will make us fishers of men.
Fishers of men are people whose ears are tuned to God’s frequency. They are people who listen to the heartbeat of God. They are people who have a burden for souls. They are people who thirst and hungers for righteousness. Above all, they are people who seek the will of God in their lives. And God favors His children who shares His heart’s cry, and what is God’s heart’s cry? The answer – for His children to turn back to Him – THAT is God’s heart’s cry.
The second verse, Matthew 28:19-20 is the Great Commission that is given to all Christians – not only pastors or evangelists or missionaries. It is the Great Commission not the Great Suggestion, Jesus did not say, “I suggest that you go and make disciples, I suggest that you baptize them, I suggest that you teach them to...” NO! He did not give us a suggestion but a command! A commission! Commission means something TRUSTED to be DONE. So Jesus is trusting us that we will fulfill the commission He gave. And of course He will not let us do it alone, He also promises that He will be with us, even to the very end of the age. So go.
The last verse which is Jeremiah 29:11-14 tells me that God has a plan for me and for us all. God revealed to me that one of His many plans for me is to spread the Gospel, and I believe God is not just speaking to me but to all who bears the name of Christ and call themselves Christian. God has a plan to prosper us and not to harm us, a plan to give us hope and a future! Wow! God has already gave His words to me about my future, now He only ask of me to give Him my most valued possession – my heart and my trust. I was reminded from Proverbs 3:5-6 to trust in God with all my heart and not lean on my own understanding. God can only work fully in us when we truly give our heart and trust to Him. God also speaks of the heart in Jeremiah 29:11-14, He asks of us that if we call to Him with our heart He will certainly answer us. His plans for me and all of us? To go (come) to Jesus, follow Him and He will be with us to the end of the age and will help us fulfill the Commission He entrusted us with. And all this will only happen IF we recognizes God’s sovereignty over our lives and that He holds our future. Not to forget to give our heart and trust to God.
Child – “Dad, what’s your plan for the weekend?”
Dad – “I have something great in store for you, my child.”
Child – “Um, you sure about that?”
Dad – “Trust me.”
Son – “Erm... Okie. So where are we going and what will we be doing?”
Dad – “Come, follow me. Let’s go fishing.”
