Getting Tomorrow's News Today.
Years ago I remember that there was this TV program that I love to watch. The title of the series is Early Edition and it is now showing on AXN (Astro). This show is about a man named Gary Hobson who gets tomorrow’s news today. Get it? =) I just managed to watch the last 10 minutes of the show just now before I typed this blog post.
He wakes up every morning and finds a copy of newspaper in front of his door. It is normal for everyone to wake up and reads the paper, but Gary is different. The newspaper he gets is actually an early edition newspaper of tomorrow’s news. Get it now? It means if today is 9th of June, the newspaper he gets is dated 10th of June.
In each show we can see Gary reading the news and finds something really terrible. He then sets out to go and try to change things. I remembered once he reads that there is a bank robbery and there were a lot of casualties, and of course being the good guy he was, Gary went out and tries to warn the bank authorities. It was always hard for people to believe what he says. C’mon, who believes that you can know what is going to happen tomorrow? (Unless you are Gary Hobson) Just now’s episode that I managed to catch last minute was about him trying to stop a basketball coach who did not want to let go of their best player in the team. He reads that the player named Michael died of heart attack in the middle of a very important game. Gary warns the coach but the coach does nothing. Gary tries and tries but he failed. Finally it was Michael’s brother that managed to stop him before he had the heart attack.
All the episodes of Early Edition are almost similar but the storyline is very nice and thought-provoking. Besides Gary, there was a friend of his who always want to take the newspaper from him to see the lottery number and buys it. He would try to steal the paper from Gary just to find out what tomorrow’s winning number is and he seldom care about trying to change the bad things that were going to happen. Here we see two different characters in the episodes. Which one reflects us more?
What will you do to change things that are going to happen and you know it? All of us have this Early Edition Newspaper somewhere in our hearts and minds. From watchful observations and insights pass on by others to us, we can somehow take thoughts and smartly guess what will happen. When we see that the soil is dry, we know that the flowers are going to die. When we see the sky is dark, we know that it will rain soon. When we see the sun setting, we know night is drawing nigh.
What do you see? What will you do?
