Put On Your Blinders
Hebrews 12:2-3
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfector of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God .Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
Have you ever notice that race horses wear a partial blindfold over the sides of their eyes? These blinders ensure that the horses will only be able to look straight and not turn to the left or to the right during the race. Since horses have peripheral vision, they cannot fully see what is in front of them. And if during a race the horse suddenly sees another horse appear at his sides, he might get startled and then try to move away, causing accident. The blinders keep the horses calm so that they will not be able to see his opponent until it is a little in front of him.
The blinders keep them focus on what is in front.
Like these animals, we humans can learn from them and do the same thing. If we have our eyes fixed on the prize, we would give our all to finish the race and win it. We would not be distracted by any other thing.
Jesus fixed his eyes on the reward and joy that was set before him after the cross. Therefore it gave him the strength to go and conquer the cross. It is mentioned in the verse above. If we have our eyes fixed on the ultimate prize, we would not be bothered with the obstacles placed in front of us. We would easily overcome them because we see the joy set before us. Once our focus is set on Jesus, like the race horses, we could jump over each obstacle in front of us and continue running the race until it is over.
A fighter who has his eyes fixed on winning the championship belt will muster all the strength in him and fight, fight, fight until the fight is over. For a brief moment in time, he will know no pain and he will know no fear. He will bear all the beatings and he will fall down and rise up again. Because he has his eyes fixed on the championship belt, he will fight to win.
Until you really do it, you will not know the power you can yield once you have fixed your eyes on Jesus.
