What's Devotion?
What is devotion? Is it like sitting down and read a book quietly? Is it like waking up early and force yourself to pray? Is it that boring time of the day where Christians tries to take it as a fun thing to do? None of the above my friends. Devotion means to devote your time to something or someone, to give, to sacrifice, to spend your time for someone, to devote yourself... to God.
Many Christians find themselves not growing spiritually and they blame the church and the people around them. Some even go to the extend of going to their pastor and inform that they are going to change church because they are not growing in their current one. I find this rather ridiculous and sorry to say; stupid. If someone comes up to me saying they wnat to change church for this reason I would tell them, "You can't grow in this church? Well, are you doing your devotion at home?" and they will definitely go silent.
Do you remember the joy you had when you first receive Christ? Or the first time God answered your prayer? Are you feeling dry in your faith now? If you are, then most likely you are not doing your devotion. You see, we can get all hyped up after a powerful pastor delivers a message at a big conference and you go all crazy about Jesus the nest day. You feel like climbing Mt.Everest and scream, "JESUS is GOD and SAVIOR! I LOVE HIM!!!" One week later you would think twice, maybe climb Mt.Kinabalu and shout, "I love Jesus!!! Do you?!!!" the following week you might just want to climb a hill and shout, "Jesus is God." and the following week you might just thought of staying at home and watch TV. This is very common among Christians nowadays, they get fired up but the fire NEVER last long. And one day it eventually dies and boom, the devil sends a lttle gust and down you go from the faith...
How can you keep this fire burning? Not just keep it burning but fan it into big flames! Easy, do your daily devotion. In your devotion, God is able to speak to you, He is able to tell you how to deal with your problems, and He is able to fire you up day and day and He is able to fan your fire into flames.
Your body needs food to survive right? You eat three meals a day to stay healthy and keep living. So does your spiritual body, it needs to be fed daily, i repeat, DAILY. You can't just depend on the weekend breads you receive when you come to church for service, it's not enough for your spiritual body! It needs to be fed everyday, and you feed it by reading God's Word, the Bible. Spend time with God in your devotion and He will feed you with the heavenly honey. It taste like... life.
Do not let your spiritual body grow weak, for when it is weak the devil finds it rather easy to attack you. When your spiritual body is weak the devil is happy, becasue he can pull you down from the faith easilly. And soon enough, you become a backslider.
You want your life to be better? Have a relationship with God so He can help you, and have this relationship by doing your devotion. Sacrifice a few minutes of your God-given 24hours for Him. When you start to do this, you can see your life start to change.
God bless all...
Colossians 2:6-7
So then just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthen in the faith as you were taught and overflowing with thankfulness.
Heberws 6:1
Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that leads to death and of faith in God.
