Dance Dance Dance...
Dancing is a worldwide language now. People communicate through dancing, every tribes from the north pole to the south has their very own kind of dance. Regardless of age, everyone is attracted to dancing and watching the body move.
Nowadays there are numerous types of dancing; tango, Latino, Mexican, reggae, and the most popular, hip hop dancing. Hip hop dance is closely linked to the beat and feel of rap music, especially those with angst lyrics in it. The most frequent place where you can see people dancing is non other than the night club, and thus the word “clubbing” came about which is linked to dancing.
Youths are more and more attracted to dancing now, no matter how well you can dance or how badly you dance, you will still have a desire in you to dance. At the night clubs is where a lot of people find their refuge for sorrow, anxiety, fear, worries and difficulties. They would bottle down a big bottle of beer and get high with the trance music that is played by the DJs, get someone of the opposite sex and start moving their body on the dance floor. And if you have been to a night club before, you will know how the dance goes. Body will rub against each other and hands flying all around (if you get what I mean) and that is where people get drugged, rape and all the possible things you can think of. That is the effect of the mixture of music and dancing.
That is how Satan uses music and dance as one of his arsenal of weapons against Christians.
Music and dance was created by and for God and God alone. But the banishing of Satan and his legion of angels from heaven caused Satan to bring along one of his “talents” which is music. The craftiness of the enemy is pulling away music and dance from good to evil. But God will not let that happen.
In the Bible, the first account of dancing was recorded in the book of 2 Samuel when David brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem.
2 Samuel 6:14
David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the Lord with all his might.
David was overjoyed and danced with all his might before God. Another account of dancing is in the book of Matthew.
Matthew 14:6
On Herod’s birthday the daughter of Herodias danced for them and pleased Herod so much that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked.
This was what happened. Herod had his birthday bash and then his daughter came and danced before her father (Herod) and she danced so so well that it melted her father’s heart. She danced into her father’s heart and made her him so happy and pleased that he told his daughter to ask for anything and it will be given to her. And there was no pulling back of what he told his daughter, Herod’s daughter asked for the head of John the Baptist. With the large number of crowd present at Herod’s birthday bash, he cold not have possibly break his promise and turn down his daughter’s request. So John the Baptist was beheaded – all because a child danced into the heart of her father.
We as children of God are called to do likewise, to worship God with our body. God delights in His people dancing for him. David was one dancing freak, throughout the book of Psalm you can see that David indeed loves to dance.
dancing is a form of worship where we express our love for God.
How glad would God be if His children would dance for Him rather than dancing for the devil. When people dance in the clubs, they are dancing for themselves, for their dance partners, for their own happiness and satisfaction. And oh please, no – we do not dance and then ask God to give us someone’s head, mind you. *laughs.
When we dance before the Lord our God and Savior, we are dancing for the King of kings and the Lord of lords. We are dancing for His joy, we are dancing as an act of worship and praise and thanksgiving. We are dancing into the heart of our Father.
Do not be ashamed or think about what the person next to you will say about you. It is between you and God, who is in authority to question your sacrifice unto God?! No one! Give God what He deserves, which is the praise and worship of His people, with all our might! So do not be ashamed to dance before our Father and please Him.
I suddenly got the dancing spirit during the first Praise and Worship session at GY Camp last year when the Grace USJ Band was playing. I do not know what happened but all of a sudden I suddenly did something I have never did before – I danced before God. I just started to move my body and hands and legs in a way people would find it weird and funny and laugh over it. But who cares?! Say what you want but please know that I am not and NOT dancing for you, I am dancing for my Heavenly Father.
Let us dance into the heart of our Father.
Psalm 150
Praise him with tambourine and dancing...
Psalm 149:3
Let them praise his name with dancing...
O, I feel like dancing,
It’s foolishness I know,
but when the world has seen Your light,
they will dance with joy
like we’re dancing now...
(From the song I could Sing of Your Love Forever by Delirous.)
