John 15:16
You did not choose me but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit -
fruit that will last.
How many of you love fruit? Any kind of fruits. I love um durian, is that considered a fruit ah? =) hehe. I know durians stink for some people, but I just find the smell so nice! Argh! Do you know that there are rotten fruits as well as fresh fruits, but both of them are also called fruits? You throw the rotten ones away and only keep the good ones right? Don’t tell me you eat rotten fruits too, well if you do, I guess you will spend the rest of your day on your “throne” =)
Trees bear fruits, and only good fruits produce good seeds in order to produce offspring. Farmers only use seeds from good fruits to plant another tree. Good fruits that last long are chosen for export to other parts of the world. Nowadays we want fruits that will last long and still stay fresh to be consumed.
Do you know that we Christians are also called to bear fruits? Jesus tells us in John 15:15 that we are to go and bear fruits, not just fruits but fruits that will last. I have been asking myself, for the past months what fruits have I bear. I have been doing so much in church, I have involved myself in this, in that, this that this that but what fruits have I bear for Jesus? Only I can answer that question. I have found my answer. How about you?
You see, we could be very busy being involved in every ministry in the church. We could be playing guitar for Sunday School and bass for the youth meeting and also help out in the dance ministry as well as being involved as a leader in the youth church and many more. Many of us are in fact doing so. At one time I had so many things in my hands, I was playing bass and guitar for YE and also Sunday School, I was in the YE committee serving as Follow-Up and Evangelism coordinator. And other than that I was involved in outside ministries.
I then asked myself; Yes, I am doing a lot... Yes, it is good to serve with my talents and abilities. Yes, I am bearing fruits... But um, am I bearing fruits that will last?
I was like a farmer that goes around his fields sowing papaya seed, watermelon seeds, mango seeds, banana seeds, apple seeds and durian seeds but I had no time to look after each and every seeds. So all grew up, but not all grew up well. It was because I had to use my energy to tend the different trees so I could not focus all my energy on one type of trees. I was doing a lot but then all were in vain, the end product wasn’t good.
Whatever I do in church may bear fruits but I have to stop and question myself, “I have been doing a lot and bearing fruits here and there, but am I bearing fruits that will last?”
If only I focus all my energy on doing one main thing, then the end product will be a fruit that will last.
John 15:16
You did not choose me but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit - fruit that will last.
Jesus had a mighty plan in hand
He spent three years with twelve men,
Teaching them the way, the truth and the life
And they turned the whole world from black to white.
One type fruit that will last,
The type of fruit Jesus asks,
A fruit bore out of love within friendship,
A fruit He wants out of discipleship.
Go and disciple someone today.
Matthew 28:19-20
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
