Sejarah? Anyone?

Very good, you can all sit down now.

Today I am going to teach you Chapter 4 from Form 4’s Sejarah. I will be doing it in English today so that you might be able to understand better.

The beginning of this chapter tells us about the people of Arab Jahiliah, they are also known as Masyarakat Jahiliah. This group of people existed around 300 AD to 610 AD.

Do you know what the word Jahiliah means? This word is used to describe those people.

Jahiliah is an Arabian word meaning “STUPID and KNOWING NOTHING”. In Bahasa Malaysia it is, “Bodoh, jahil, dungu, dan tidak mengetahui apa-apa.”

They lived in stupidity and know nothing. These Jahiliah people practiced all kinds of religions and beliefs and they are not organized at all. They drink, the rape, they kill, they rob and they do all kinds of vices under the sun. That is why we call them the “Masyarakat Jahiliah” or “Stupid People”. Understand?

(Yes, teacher.)

Good. Now we shall go on. The religion and beliefs of the Stupid People can be put into four different groups:

1) Animism – they worship trees, plants, rocks and everything around them.
2) Agama Wathani – they worship idols.
3) Kepercayaan adat – they believe in their practices passed down from generations to generations.
4) Agama Samawi – they were CHRISTIANS and JEWS.

Ok let me ask you guys some questions now.

What does Masyarakat Jahiliah means?

(It means people who are stupid and dungu and they know nothing at all.)

(Um... They worship trees... They worship idols... They practice all kinds of rituals from their nenek moyang and um... Aiyo, teacher I forgot... Um... Ya! I remembered!
The Stupid People are Christians and Jews as well!)

Should we be learning this? Should the Education System revise the Sejarah textbooks and its components?
