Why Magic?

I guess that you guys are all wondering why Zlwin is doing magic now.

Didn’t I tell you guys before that I am a radical guy? =) And didn’t I encourage you to be radical in all your doing as well? Now, I am talking about being radical for God, not for any other things okay. I have been posting posts about being radical with your blogs such as posting about God more than ourselves. We must stop doing what the world normally do and start doing what Christians should do, that is to be radical about their faith in God.

To cut the long story short, when I went to The Magic Annexe (TMA) for my interview, Anslem Roy asked me one question, “Why magic?”

Without thinking I replied, “I want to learn magic so that I can use it for God.”

Have you guys heard of such thing called Gospel Magic? Many of you I guess are new to this term; well I want to tell you what it is now. Gospel magic is basically using magic effects and illusions to share the Gospel. Not only sharing a salvation message but many other stuff such as talking about faith in God, trust, prayer, obedience and everything else mentioned in the Bible. Your ability to incorporate the Gospel into magic is only limited by your creativity. This is really nothing new, there are actually a large number of Christian magicians out there who uses magic to illustrate Bible messages. There is a organization called the Fellowship of Christian Magicians (http://www.fcm.org/)

This is nothing so much of a difference like having a Christian band playing Christian songs like PlanetShakers, Delirious and Switchfoot. The idea of Gospel Magic is the same as Gospel Songs, just that the way of presenting it is different.

I got interested in magic ever since I first saw my first magic show when my dad used to bring our family to Genting to watch. But I have never got the idea of learning it until this February 2008. Last year I remembered talking to Pastor John about magic because I wanted to ask him whether there is anything evil behind magic and magicians. He told me that they were just pure genius who has a lot of knowledge. And he asked me, “Why did you ask? You want to learn ah?” I shied away and said, “No la hehe.”

Here I am now, birthed in me a new found desire which is to learn the art of magic so that I can use it to spread the Gospel’s message of salvation and love.

I thank God that I found a wonderful magic club called The Magic Annexe and to my surprise, the founder of the club is Anslem Roy. He is an international magician illusionist who has travelled around the globe for the past 37 years performing with top magicians such as Franz Harary. He also won the International Merlin Award, New York, USA. Apart from that, he is so close to Klang! He stays in PJ and attends Grace Assembly PJ =) haha. What is amazing is the fact that he has a big big heart for Gospel Magic. He wants to create a Gospel Magic ministry and let us pray together with him that this will come to pass.

Use whatever you have for the glory of God. “It is okay to have fun.” Pastor John said in his blog with the picture of him 30feet under the sea. Whatever you do, have fun but see to it that it benefits the Kingdom of God. Remember, there must to be more to life than this.

It is also my heart’s cry to see the youths of this generation rising up to take the challenge of spreading the Gospel and taking dominion for Christ. Let this be your life’s top priority.

And for your information, I am not doing card magic only, I am using more of other effects for Gospel Magic. With cards I can't spread the Gospel, people's first impression is that I am a gambler haha. The reason I took the pictures with cards because it looks cool.
