Look at me, do I look stressed???
Going through a hectic day?
Teachers and lecturers chasing after you for numerous assignments that was supposed to be passed up last week? Your friends are inviting you out to KL for a party but you have to turn them down because your aunt from Australia is coming down? Parents bugging you to clean up the house and you are too busy to do so? Your crush just turned down your offer to bring him/her out for a candle light dinner on Saturday? Your mobile phone ran out of battery? Your internet connection just went cuckoo and your computer is infected with virus?
Everything is just going WRONG for you?
Two words I give to you...
Just chill...
You must be screaming, “WHAT?! Chill?! In this kind of state I am in?!”
Yea that is right my dear friends, just chill...
In Luke 10:38-42, Jesus was traveling and preaching about the kingdom of God when He arrived at a village one day. And a woman named Martha opened her home to Jesus and invited Him and His disciples in. Like any good host would do, Martha was probably busy preparing food for the guests she had invited. So she left her guests to feel at home while she did her preparations. While Martha was doing all the preparations, her sister by the name Mary was sitting down and listening to Jesus. Jesus was probably talking or preaching to His disciples and Mary just decided to sit down and listen. Then Martha came to Jesus and told Him, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” (Luke 10:40)
And Jesus answered Martha, “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:41-42)
Martha, like many of us out there, is too preoccupied and busy with so many things and sometimes we just can not seem to handle everything at once. Then we get frustrated and angry at ourselves and others as well. We get into a bad mood and find ways to blow up at anyone for a no particular reason. Martha was the one who invited Jesus into her house, and she was DISTRACTED with the many things around and left Jesus and His disciples. And she got mad at Mary for not helping her but instead sitting down and listening to Jesus.
We too, like Martha, have invited Jesus into our lives but now many of us are just too distracted with the many things to do that we often forget what is of more importance. Mary chose for herself what was of greater importance, she chose to listen to Jesus. She chose to sit down quietly and forget about what is going on and forget about all worries and sit down and listen to Jesus.
Are you spending more time with your own stuffs than spending time with God? God gave you 24 hours a day, how many hours are you giving Him back? God gave you 1,440 minutes a day, how many minutes are you giving Him back? God gave you 86,400 seconds a day, how many seconds are you giving Him back?
Or are you like Martha? Are you DISTRACTED with life’s worries?
Forget about what is bothering you right now. Forget about that assignment for a while. Forget about that important date you have with your crush. Forget about life’s worries just for a moment... Be like Mary...
Sit down quietly and listen...
Just chill...
and...
...Go back into the loving arms of Jesus... and in Him, you will find rest...
Matthew 11:28
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
