“Do this! Do that!”, “Come here!”, “Go there!”There are many voices around us. Voices are everywhere and we can’t get away from hearing voices. Even before we came out of our mother’s womb we have heard voices. It is important that we are aware of what voices we are listening to.

WE BECOME WHAT WE LISTEN TO.

A toddler hears the familiar voice of his mother and he immediately crawls towards that voice. A young teenager listens to the voice of her favorite rapper on the radio and she gets attracted to it. There are many voices around us and they come from many sources. A high school graduate is deciding on what course to take. Then a whole load of voices come at him, “Take medicine, a doctor has good pay.” “No take up tourism, you have good communicating skills. Moreover you can travel often.” “I think you should take up designing because you are good in arts.” Sounds familiar?

We can not run away from the voices we hear. The mainstream media is telling the teenagers of this generation to dress less. Less cloth, more skin, then you will be popular. It is telling us that having a lot of girlfriends is the in-thing and sleeping around is cool. The world is telling us that money is everything and we should go against each and every moral value in the name of money and wealth. The world is telling us that smoking is cool, if you drink then you are a man, if you have slept with 10 different girls then you are a man. It is telling us that if you dress less than you will be popular, if you have big boobs then you are pretty, if you are tall you are pretty, if you are fat then go for slimming course or just rot at home because no one wants to look at you.

THESE ARE THE VOICES OF THE WORLD!

There are many voices to listen to and we do not know which the right voice is. Fear not, we should be glad to know that we have ONE TRUE VOICE to listen to. That is the voice of our Good Shepherd. The world tells us things to deceive us, like if you are fat then you are not beautiful or handsome. But our Shepherd’s voice tells us that we are all beautifully and wonderfully made. The world tells us that it is cool to sleep around but the voice of our Shepherd tells us that we are only to devote ourselves to one spouse. The world tells us this and that but they only lead to our destruction. We should instead listen to the voice of Jesus our Good Shepherd.

We are to be very careful of what voices we are listening to because it might break us or make us. I listened to the voice of the world once and I got into a lot of problem ad my life was wrecked, but now I know what voice am I to listen to.

We who claim we are Christians should also know that we are God’s flocks, God’s sheep. We are sheep who are lead by only one Shepherd. A sheep can not choose to listen to two voices because one voice would say, “Go left.” and one, “Go right.” then if the sheep makes the wrong decision, he will go straight to the mouth of a wolf. So we got to know that we are Jesus’ sheep and He is our only Shepherd. He knows us and He knows where to lead you.

THE VOICE WE LISTEN TO LEADS US TO THE FUTURE WE GO TO.

It is either you listen to the voice of the world and be lead by the world into the world
OR
You listen to the voice of your Shepherd and be lead by your Shepherd into green pastures.
